Creating a Mock Float for Trunk or Treat?

I am making a "fake" float for a trunk or treat. I've never made a float before. Can anyone help me with simple, inexpensive ways to do it? Balloons? Streamers? our theme is a Mardi Gras float, thinking 2010 Super Bowl champs. Any other ideas to make it Mardi Gras (I do know the colors, so want to use those along with the Saints black/gold.) We are going to be "on the float" (stools behind the fake cardboard float) handing out candy and beads. How should we dress?

Perhaps some of the flameless candles that are popular in the stores right now. Perhaps something lining the trunk with gold glitter fabric, tree branches sprayed black, and wear a sold color top.sweatshirt etc as you pass out candy.

How about dressing like a zombie or skeleton (even just wear total black and paint your face) and make the trunk hood (or above it between he hood and the back window to look like a gravestone with whatever you'd like it to say. Ask Stores for a flat type box (like the size a flat screen might come in) and use magic markers to decorate it!
