Halloween Costume Ideas for Adults

October 13, 2009

Halloween costumeYou will need a large white bedsheet. Cut out a hole in sheet to fit over your head. Try to center the hole in the middle of length of sheet. You will need a round plastic clothes basket with most of bottom cut out to fit over your head and rest on your shoulders.

You will need assorted empty laundry containers such as detergent and fabric softener both liquid and powder and sheet boxes. Use yarn or string to attach items to sheet. I used safety pins to pin the string onto the sheet in random pattern. Use assorted clothing items such as socks, bras, undies, PJ's etc to drape over top of basket and hang onto sheet. The funnier the better.

Everyone loved my costume at the costume party we attended!

Making costumes can be a lot easier if you use duct tape. There are two ways I like: Make fabric out of duct tape and then make a costume like you normally would.

One half of my body looked like a man, and the other looked like a women. Very inexpensive. Go to a used clothing store to get the clothes.

I called several places about renting a Halloween costume and was dumbfounded at the amount of money you can spend to rent a costume. And you don't even get to keep it! So, I put my thinking cap on and did some research.

Here are a couple of grown up costume ideas that are fairly cheap. "Devil with a blue dress" (for you rock and rollers.) Last year I wore a blue dress I'd already had with devil horns and tail I picked up on sale for 1.99 and everyone loved it!

Here are a few ideas:

  1. You can buy one of the colored wigs, short, blue or another color and paint you face like a punk rocker or something like Kiss.
  2. Advertisement

  3. Find an old wig from around the 1970's or so and buy this. Make sure it is hort. Now make a long black robe, some costume jewelry, and dress it up as you like. Now paint your face green or white so that you look sort of sick or dead.
  4. You can dress up like a dead cowboy. You just need some face paint, some jeans, shirt, and cowboy hard to make this one work.
  5. Many people go as zombies, witches (good and bad), and vampires.
  6. Go with someone famous like the Queen of England.

This link will give you tons of ideas. As for me, I have blown up purple balloons and was a grape cluster (hard to sit but still pretty cute). I have also just hot glued some cherrio type cereal to an old shirt and drizzled fake blood from each and I was a cereal killer. You can dress in a suit and cut out printed out pages from law books and be a "law suit". Hope these help.

I highly suggest getting some face paint and trying comic book art on your face! Use some old, plain clothes you don't care for and take a sharpie marker to draw outlines on the edges. It literally costs a few bucks. Check out my version:

Happy Halloween!!!

Go with something you have always wanted to be! After choosing that, I would start with a look around the house for anything that can be recycled into your costume needs. DIY costumes are always better than store bought!

My photographer husband is going to a Halloween costume party and wants to dress up in some way to include his camera, so he can take pictures there. Does anyone have any ideas?

Go as an old fashioned camera! (Like those used during the Civil War era) Make a replica camera from cardboard with space for the regular camera to shoot through. A cloth over his head and he's good to go.

How about an old time news reporter? Straw hat with press pass, striped shirt with sleeve holders, suspenders and neutral pants.

He could wear khaki clothing with one of those safari hats to be a "wildlife" photographer. He could also wear dress clothes, make himself a "press pass" to pin on his shirt and go as a photojournalist.

Thanks for the ideas! We wound up going as an old fashioned journalist and his secretary to the party. He had most of the pieces in his closet so it was pretty inexpensive.

We also thought of Peter Parker (Spiderman) as he is a photographer, or a secret agent or spy costume. I'm sure we will try to do something different for next Halloween. :)

I sewed two large bath towels together, made a knot over one shoulder and secured with rubber band (wore a strapless top under it), used quilt batting to make soap bubbles attached to double faced tape & pasted on arms & face, and shower cap with soap bubbles also and carried a bath brush and soap on rope and wore flip flops.

I'm open to any suggestions for quickly recreating the outfit Lady Gaga wears with her dancers at the bath haus in the Bad Romance video. I've got snaps, rivets, upholstery thread, and thin white vinyl. I don't have sewing experience or more than a day to get this done.

For Halloween one year, I bought the ugliest dress I could find at the thrift store. It was a black sheath dress with yellow, white and gold shear collar and it was sleeveless. I wore black pantyhose and glued spiders and ants on the hose and dress.
