Making a Wolverine Costume

November 3, 2011

A homemade Wolverine (X-Men) costume with yellow eyes and long metal claws. This is a costume of Wolverine from X-Men. This is the Hugh Jackman version, not the comic book blue/yellow version. Total materials cost about $36.

Instructions:

This assembly of this costume is relatively easy. I had most of the materials required to make this costume; wife beater tank top, jeans, dog tags, and longer hair. I purchased the yellow contacts for $20, the belt buckle for $7 off of Ebay, and six Grim Reaper scythes from the dollar store to make the claws.

The only things that required fabrication were the claws and painting the belt buckle. The belt buckle is an exact replica that was used in the movie, only it came unpainted. I bought some paint from AC Moore and painted it the respective colors.

For the claws, I purchased the scythes from the dollar store and cut them to the correct size, leaving notches for my knuckles. I then cut a clothes hanger accordingly and glued one end of the hanger piece into the plastic claw and the other end in the retainer piece that I held in my palm. This gave the appearance of having the claws coming out of my hand.

Overall, the costume came out very good and was relatively easy and inexpensive to create.
