Total Time: About two hours

Yield: 20-24 cupcakes

Supplies:

  • Vanilla icing
  • Vanilla cupcake mix
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Cupcake Tin
  • Cupcake Liners
  • Food coloring
  • Oreos
  • Hershey's Kisses
  • Fall sprinkles
  • Leaf sprinkles
  • Large pretzels
  • M&Ms
  • Eyeball sprinkles
  • Candy corn
  • Gumdrops
  • Chocolate chips
  • Red gel writer
  • Black gel writer
  • Tootsie rolls
  • Green candy tape

Steps:

  1. The first design we created was a Witch's Hat. We mixed the vanilla icing with green food coloring and iced those cupcakes green. We then separated Oreos, and placed one half onto the cupcake. We added a lump of icing to the center of each Oreo with orange tinted icing and then tossed on fall sprinkles. We added a Hershey's Kiss in the center of the orange icing for the hat. We completed it with a circle of leaf sprinkles around the hat.

  3. The next design was Spiders. We mixed the vanilla icing with yellow food coloring and iced those cupcakes yellow. We again used half an Oreo, this time for the spider's head. We glued eye sprinkles to green M&Ms with melted chocolate, letting them harden for a few minutes in the fridge. We made fangs from the white tip of candy corn, and glued those pieces onto the Oreo with melted chocolate as well. We then broke pretzels in order to obtain the longer rounded pieces. We stuck four of these on either side of the Oreos, for the legs.
  4. Ingredients and icing for cupcakes.

    Cupcakes with yellow icing.

    Cupcakes decorated to resemble spiders.

  5. For the next cupcakes we made eyeballs. We iced these cupcakes with the regular white icing. We cut gumdrops with a butter knife, slicing off the bottom to get a round disc. We then stuck a chocolate chip into the sticky top. We put the gumdrop in the center of the cupcake. We then drew the eye veins with squiggly lines out of red gel icing.

  7. The last cupcake design was Jack-O'-Lanterns. We mixed the vanilla icing with orange food coloring and iced those cupcakes orange. The food coloring didn't come with orange, however, so we mixed it using the red and yellow colors. We used a piece of tootsie roll as the pumpkin stem. We cut the green candy tape into long thin slices with scissors and then curled them around the top for a vine look. We also cut pieces into little leaves. We used black gel writer to make different faces for each pumpkin.
  8. Icing for cupcakes.

    Cupcakes decorated to resemble jack-o'-lanterns.

  9. These cupcakes were fun and fairly easy to make. We brought them to a little Halloween show we were involved in, and all the people there loved them! They definitely made the get-together a hit!
