Bloody Choker Necklace - necklace in woman's neckApologies if this is creepy, but I just adore overly dramatic Halloween costume pieces! I've seen similar chokers for sale for $15, and this cost me no more than 50 cents in supplies. Here's how to make one yourself.

Total Time: 45 minutes plus dry time

Yield: 1 necklace

Supplies:

  • tape measure
  • parchment paper
  • pencil
  • hot glue gun with glue (about 2.5 sticks)
  • red acrylic paint
  • paintbrush
  • red ribbon or yarn
Bloody Choker Necklace - supplies

Steps:

  1. Measure your neck so the tape measure is tight, but not painful.
  2. Bloody Choker Necklace - measure your neck

  3. Subtract 1 inch from your neck size and draw start and stop markers of that measurement on your parchment paper.
  4. Bloody Choker Necklace - draw start and stop spots on parchment paper

  5. Draw a straight glue line across the markers, a few millimeters in from the lines.
  6. Bloody Choker Necklace - draw a glue line between the marks starting and ending in a few milimeters

  7. Draw thick little rings at the end of the line so they reach the marker lines.
  8. Bloody Choker Necklace - draw thick little rings between the end of the glue line and the marks

  9. Start dabbing glue down the horizontal line, pooling the glue at the bottom. This will be your dripping blood.
  10. Bloody Choker Necklace - making blood drips

  11. Go all the way across, making some drips longer than others.
  12. Bloody Choker Necklace - all drips added

  13. Hot glue dries very quickly. When cool, lift off the parchment paper. Pick off any thin strings of glue that have hardened, and any bits of parchment paper that stuck on. You want this to look as smooth as possible.
  14. Bloody Choker Necklace- remove hardened glue from paper, remove glue strings and paper bits

  15. Lift up the necklace a bit and paint it red, making sure you coat the edges.
  16. Bloody Choker Necklace - paint necklace red, lifting to make sure you get the edges

  17. Allow to dry completely, a few hours.
  18. Bloody Choker Necklace - allow to dry for a few hours

  19. String a little piece of red ribbon or yarn in each loop, tie a knot to secure, then tie it around your neck.
  20. Bloody Choker Necklace - add ribbon ties at the ends through the rings
